Tennis is a global sport, with players from all over the world playing this game. So, with all that in mind, just what bets are available to Canadians seeking to bet on this sport?

Wins and Runs

In truth, there are very few bets available when it comes to tennis. This is because it is not a team sport and because when you get down to it, it is also very basic. One of the ways that you can bet is known as a Tournament Outright bet. On this bet you are basically gambling on who will win any given tournament, and you can also place an “each way” bet to cover you if your chosen player makes it to the final and then loses. There are even bets that will cover you if they make it to the semi final and then lose, but for these bets to be active and profitable then you need to get in early, preferably before the tournament begins, and there will need to be a lot of players in that tournament.

One of the best ways to earn a decent profit gambling on tennis is to bet on an outsider getting a deep run in a tournament. You will need to know your stuff in order to do this as you will need to have a good feeling about a player that everyone has pretty much overlooked. Luckily, these sort of players run deep in tournaments all the time, including the biggest tournaments of all such as the US Open and Wimbledon.

Matchups

Another popular bet is known as a “matchup”, which is a fairly common bet across the board and is also placed on sports such as basketball, hockey and more. In a “matchup” you will be given the choice of two players, such as Roger Federer and Andy Murray, and asked to bet on which one will last the longest in the competition. If, for instance, Federer makes it to the final and loses, but Andy Murray gets knocked out in the early rounds, then those that bet on Federer will win, even though he didn’t actually win the whole tournament.

A matchup such as the example cited above will often return very slight odds, as these two players are highly ranked. If, however, you bet on an outside player to get further than a player in the top five, then you will be given quite high odds and you can win your bet even if those two players never meet. This is the beauty of matchup bets in tennis, because an outsider can win a matchup against a favorite, simply by the outsider beating other fringe players to advance, whilst the favorite gets knocked out by another highly ranked player.

Individual Games

You can also bet on individual games, but the odds can be very small due to the fact that, like in sports such as boxing, there can be a huge difference in ability between the two players. If you want to increase your odds then you can use the handicap system, which will add games to outside chances and subtract them from favorites. This means that you can bet that Murray will beat a fringe player by more than 4.5 games, or more than 1.5 sets, and you can bet that a fringe player will not lose by that many games and that many sets.
