You may not realize it, but the majority of casino software is created by a handful of companies, before being licensed to major sports books and casinos. This is why no matter how many sites you use, you always seem to encounter the same games and the same layout.

So just who are these companies? Well, Microgaming and Playtech are the main two, the ones that have led this market for a number of years and the ones that are used on most major sites, but there are many others as well.

Microgaming

Microgaming claim to the be the oldest casino software provider. They were the ones who started it all, and when it comes to modern online casinos, and in particularly slot machines, then no one does it better than Microgaming. If you have played on many online casinos in the past then there is a good chance you will have played on Microgaming.

They specialize in slots and are at the forefront of the industry, creating new features, new bonus rounds and new games. They license many top films and franchises for their games, including Batman Dark Knight and Jurassic Park. Playtech

IGT

IGT is the abbreviation for International Game Technology, a company that was founded back in 1975. As well as working in the online gambling industry, IGT also manufacture actual slot machines, and it has been suggested that half of the slot machines in the United States are created by this company. IGT is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and their annual revenue is in the billions, with over 10,000 employees. IGT have offices around the world, including in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, China, Canada and elsewhere. When it comes to slot machine manufacturers, they don’t come much bigger than this.

Skin on Net

Skill on Net is one of the smaller gambling software developers, developing a few dozen slot games, along with hi-low games and video poker. They were founded back in 2005 and have grown steadily since, with their hand in the table games market as well. In fact one of the things Skill on Net are most famous for is their online backgammon game, and they have also created Paigow poker games.
