There was a time when the only way you could gamble online was through software downloaded onto a Windows desktop or laptop. Luckily those days are behind us. The dawn of the smartphone and then the tablet computer changed the way we use the internet and the way we gamble. With more people accessing the internet with these devices than with laptops and desktops, it makes sense that all gambling sites now have apps you can use to gamble on your iPad or iPhone. BetFair and Apple Devices

BetFair began as a betting exchange. This is a site that allows users to act as bookmakers and as punters. They don’t need to see or interact with the people they offer bets to, and the system is entirely automated in that sense, but this setup allows for a huge amount of competition and that in turn created some fantastic odds across the board. With no better odds available anywhere else, and with so many markets to gamble on (much more so than any other gambling site at the time) it was no surprise that BetFair took off almost instantly.

After spreading across Europe it soon conquered the world, and then it decided to expand the services that it offered. As well as pioneering things such as Live Betting and Cash-Out, BetFair turned from a betting exchange into a betting community. It added an arcade, it added a casino, it added a bingo room and then it added its own sports book, working separately from the betting exchange.

Most of the content on the BetFair site can be accessed through the Mac OS and the iOS, and this includes the downloadable software. Most of the content on BetFair doesn’t need to be downloaded though, it works straight through the browser. This applies to the Arcade, which is home to hundreds of slot machines, dozens of promotions and BetFair’s own Bonus Bar. There is one issue that we have with BetFair, and it is one that should not exist. That issue is with the BetFair poker room, and the reason it should not exist is because it never used to exist. There was a time when we played BetFair poker more than any other poker site. It worked on our iMac and our Macbook no problem and we liked it. They used the Ongame Network back then and all was well with that part of the site. For whatever reason though, they decided to change over to the iPoker Network. While many players prefer this network because of the variety of games on offer, it is not compatible with Apple devices. That meant that overnight many Apple users were basically kicked-off the BetFair poker room. Mac users made a lot of fuss about this though and it will surely be a matter of time before BetFair do something about it.

Except for this issue, the whole of the BetFair site is perfect for the iMac, MacBook iPad and iPhone user. Contrary to what many people seem to believe, it is also available in most countries around the world. Of course, this does not include the United States, but it does include Canada, so we can’t complain.
