The Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight may have been a huge disappointment for many, failing to ignite the sport of boxing like many had hoped and expected it would, but all eyes in the sporting world were on the sport of boxing for those twelve rounds and even for the build-up, and that shows just how big this sport can be. Following that fight, we have also had some better fights, including the boxing night put on by Eddie Hearn and Sky Box Office, where of over half a dozen fights, not a single one went the distance, with superstars such as Anthony Joshua and Kell Brook emerging as two of the most exciting victors.

So, with boxing back in the spotlight and with so much money been gambled on this sport on the betting exchanges and the sports book, just what is the best way to gamble on boxing and what is the best site to gamble on?

The Best Boxing Sports Book

For us, Sports Interaction is by far the best place to gamble on the biggest boxing fights. Every sports book had dozens of markets on the Mayweather and Pacquiao fight, there’s nothing special there as this was a global fight, but you can tell the best from the rest by the markets they offer on the smaller fights. We used Sports Interaction to bet on the most recent Amir Khan fight and also on the recent Cotto, Brook and Joshua fights, and we were not disappointed.

Many sports books offer a single market on fights like these, allowing you to bet on the winner only. That gets you nowhere in most boxing fights because there is usually such a gulf in class that you’re faced with making a $1 profit from a $50 bet by gambling on the favorite and a certain win, or making $50 from a $1 bet by gambling on the outsider who has no chance.

The other markets, such as those offered by Sports Interaction on the fight we mentioned above, including how long the fight will last, whether “X” fighter will win by a KO, a Disqualification, a Technical Decision or a Points Decision, how many knockdowns there will be and more. There are many smaller, novelty markets as well, all of which serve to make the fight more interesting for the gambler and to give them more options to cash-out once the final bell is sounded.

Boxing Tips

So which are the best markets to bet on? Well, it depends on who is fighting, but as a neutral one of the markets we like is betting on whether the fight will go the distance or not. All boxing spectators want to see a knockout, so we typically like to bet on the “No” market here, but if we’re confident that it will go all of the way (such as in the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight) then we’ll look elsewhere.

In instances such as that, we like to bet on whether a particular fighter will be knocked down and then still comeback to win the fight. We had a good feeling that Pacquiao would put Mayweather on the canvas, before the American came back to win on points, so this is a bet we placed for that fight. Obviously, it didn’t turn out as we expected, but this bet ca be very profitable if it works in your favor.

If you’re watching a fight involving someone like Anthony Joshua, who is considered to be one of the best up-and-coming heavyweights, and he is paired with someone that he should beat and beat well, then you should also test your luck in the “Under/Over Rounds” market. As an example we did this for Anthony Joshua’s recent fight against Kevin Johnson. Johnson had fought some big fights and had always gone the distance, even when beaten. In fact, that was the reason he had been picked to fight Joshua, because the British fighter had achieved 12 wins all by knockout at that point and his trainers wanted to see how he would fair.

Having seen Joshua fight many times before, we knew that even Johnson wouldn’t be able to hold him off for the maximum rounds and we placed our money on the Under/2.5 Rounds”. As Joshua knocked Johnson down in the second round, ending the fight as the American flattened himself against the ropes, we were able to secure a return of 5x our stake. Not bad for a fight where Joshua was the heavy favorite and one who was expected to win well.

Of course, this doesn’t apply to all fights as there are many sluggers out there who always tend to go the distance. This is where research can be your friend. Look at the history of the two fighters involved. Do they have hard chins and big hearts? Have they achieved a lot of knockdowns or do they often go the distance?

As with any form of gambling, research really can make the difference, but you should always account for the unexpected, because in boxing, anything really can happen.
