Good News from New York Casinos Tioga Downs and Del Lago Resort

There was big news out of New York’s casino industry this week, coming from the decade old Tioga Downs Racino and the soon-to-open Del Lago Resort & Casino. One is proudly installing new slots on its recently expanded gaming floor, while the other is hosting a casino job fair in hopes of filling up to 1,800 positions before the property opens next year.

Tioga Downs Installs New Slots

New Slots at Tioga DownsCanada slots fans who prefer to travel across the border into the United States to get their wagers on may be happy to know Tioga Downs is finally expanding into a full-service, resort-style New York casino. The facility started with the installation of 63 new slot machines on Tuesday, and is expected to install over 900 in all across its expanded gaming floor before the year is out.

Tioga Downs was already classified as a racino prior to the expansion, hosting about 800 video lottery terminals (VLTs), which look and play like slot machines, but use different mechanics to determine payouts. These new slots are the same type found in major casinos throughout Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Macau, etc.

The state awarded Tioga Downs a New York casino license last year, giving the Southern Tier property permission to expand their facility into a resort-style casino with additional gambling amusements. However, the license does not permitted Tioga Downs to install Vegas-style table games like blackjack, baccarat and roulette – at least not yet. The state gaming commission is working to approve final regulations for those games, and said they could be ready as early as November.

Casino Job Fair for Del Lago Resort

Del Lago Resort and Casino Job Fair

Over in Seneca County, developers are still working on the construction of the new Del Lago Resort & Casino. In the meantime, managers have begun hosting casino job fairs to initiate recruitment of the 1,800 workers they’ll need to staff the facility.

Earlier this week, the company hosted job fairs in Generations Bank‘s employment office located at 20 East Bayard Street in Seneca Falls, NY. Sessions were held Monday and Wednesday, with another scheduled for Saturday, October 15, from 9:00am to 12:00pm noon.

Another Del Lago Resort & Casino job fair is slated for next week at the Finger Lakes Community College, located at 3325 Marvin Sands Drive in Hopwell, NY. That session will run from 2:00pm to 6:00pm on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

The company has asked all prospective employees attending the job fair to bring their resumes with them. A number of computers will be provided on location for attendants to fill out online applications.

The foundation of a great hotel and casino experience is always built with talented people,” read an encouraging statement from the New York casino’s Executive VP, Jeff Babinski.

The $440 million Del Lago Resort & Casino is expected to open its doors sometime in the first half of 2017. The property will include a 205-room hotel, spa, entertainment center, banquet facilities, numerous restaurants and, of course, a sizable casino, teeming with around 2,000 new slots, 85 table games and a 10-table poker room.
