Playtech thrills movie buffs with Dirty Dancing Slot Game

The “daily grind” takes on a whole new meaning with Playtech’s latest movie themed progressive Dirty Dancing slot game.

In 1987, every girl above the age of 10 fell in love with Patrik Swayze. That was the year the risque, hip-grinding romantic film, Dirty Dancing, was released. Starring the aforementioned heart-throb and his on-screen love interest, Jennifer Grey, the movie continues to captivate audiences to this day.

Now, thanks to Playtech and Lions Gate Entertainment, the iconic film has been further immortalized in a new Dirty Dancing slot game. The new release coincides with this year’s re-release of Dirty Dancing on DVD, in celebration of the movie’s 30^th anniversary.

In a press release last week, Playtech announced the launch of the new premium branded progressive slot machine for online licensees of the creator’s platform. The missive promised that the Dirty Dancing slot game “remains true to the original film and contains a host of memorable scenes, including the film’s climactic lift set to a classic ballroom soundtrack.”

Dirty Dancing Slot Game from Playtech

With 5×4 reels and 40 fixed paylines, the Dirty Dancing slot game can be played for as low as $0.40 up to $200 per spin. Its symbols include the most important characters from the movie—Johnny Castle (Swayze), Francis ‘Baby‘ Housman (Grey), her father Mr. Housman, and Johnny’s former dance partner, Penny Johnson.

Other high paying symbols include Johnny’s 1957 Chevy BelAir (in cherry red, instead of black like the movie), an old radio, vinyl records and high heel shoes. On the lower end, Playtech used the common playing card values of 10-A to fill out the reels.

Johnny Castle is the Wild symbol, taking the place of any other symbol (except Scatters) to help create winning combinations. The Dirty Dancing slot game logo is the Scatter, but it doesn’t trigger any special features. Scatters pay award 5, 25 or 125 times the triggering bet for landing 3, 4 or 5 anywhere on the reels.

Dirty Dancing Random Mystery Features

A trio of mystery features can be triggered at random in the Dirty Dancing slot game. They can happen at any time in the base game, following a winning or losing spin.

Whirling Wilds

When this feature activates, Johnny and Baby will dance their way across the reels, dropping up to 6 random wilds onto the screen. Winning combinations are evaluated and paid accordingly.

Mambo Free Games

When this feature is triggered, players will spin a wheel to unlock a number of free spins, multipliers and expanding wilds. Players can earn up to 35 free spins before the wheel game ends. Once the free spins start, the expanded wilds can appear on any reel, and will move around to new reels with each additional spin.

Dirty Dancing Jackpot Bonus

The Dirty Dancing slot game is packed with three jackpots. The first and smallest is a 5,000 coin jackpot. The other two are progressive jackpots—the Johnny Jackpot and the Baby Jackpot—the value of which rises continuously until they are released.

The Dirty Dancing Jackpot Bonus game is a multi-tier, match-3 game. Players are able to progress through up to six levels of the bonus feature, winning prizes for revealing 3 alike symbols. Making it to the last stage grants a chance to unlock Johnny’s or Baby’s progressive jackpot.
