Michael Myers returns in upcoming Halloween Slot by Microgaming
Microgaming secures contract to develop Halloween Slot, based on the timeless 1978 slasher hit that forever changed the horror film industry.
As a life-long fan of horror films, I—like so many others—was haunted in my youth by the obscure visage of Michael Meyers. The pale mask. Those lifeless eyes. The eerie chime of piano keys that indicated his imminent presence, just moments before light reflected off the shiny steel of a 12” Lamson blade.
Halloween is one of the most profound horror films ever to hit theatres. Now, this timeless classic, and all of its memorable characters, will grace the screen of an officially branded Halloween Online Slots game.
Microgaming announced earlier this month that it’s inked a deal with Compass International Pictures to convert the epic slasher movie into an online slot machine.
Halloween Slot Revealed
The upcoming Halloween Slot will feature the murderous Michael Meyers, his misconceived psychiatrist Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence), and his target, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). According to officials at Microgaming, the new slot machine will stay true to the film, depicting original footage and its spine-tingling soundtrack.
The 1978 slasher flick is based on the fictional story of young Michael, who at six years of age committed his first murder. On Halloween night, for no apparent reason, he took a kitchen knife from his home in Haddonfield, Illinois, slowly climbed the stairs to the bedroom of his teenage sister, Judith, and proceeded to mercilessly stab her to death.
For the next 15 years, he remained in an asylum under the care of Dr. Loomis, who came to understand that the young man was “purely and simply… evil”. Then 23 year old Michael escapes his confines and returns home to Haddonfield where he goes on a killing spree on Halloween night.
Michael’s intended victim is 17 year old Laurie Strode (for reasons revealed throughout the film), played by the incomparable Jamie Lee Curtis in her debut role. With the help of Dr. Loomis, local authorities attempt to stop the blood-thirsty psychopath. But as audiences soon come to learn, ‘You can’t kill the Boogeyman‘.
The original Halloween movie was so successful, it spawned a host of sequels and, eventually, remakes of Halloween I and II. Now, almost four decades later, there are 10 films in the Halloween franchise.
In 2006, the Library of Congress preserved Halloween in the United States National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”. That same year, it was ranked #3 (after Psycho, 1960 and The Exorcist, 1973) among the Top 100 Scariest Films Ever Made by the Chicago Film Critic’s Association.
Excitement Builds over Halloween Online Slots
Microgaming Games Publisher David Reynolds commented on the exciting new development:
“Halloween is a true classic and set the standard for modern horror films. It was immeasurably influential in the slasher genre of movies, so it is great to be working with such an iconic and respected brand. Embracing all the elements of what made the movie such a success, our games team are busy developing a slot for release later in the year.”
Compass Senior VP Ryan Freimann was equally thrilled to announce the upcoming release of the Halloween online slots game:
“We are excited to team up with Creative Licensing and Microgaming to bring Michael Myers and Halloween home to all of our loyal fans in the best possible ways through top licensees who create products we feel honour the character, film, and franchise.”
Aside from “later in the year”, no specific timeline has been set for the release of the Halloween Slot. I would imagine the ultimate goal is to launch the game at Microgaming online casinos before October 31, 2017.
