Lewis Black, Kathleen Madigan coming to Canada Casinos

Canada Casinos gearing up for Comedians Lewis Black and Kathleen Madigan.

If you’ve read any of my previous articles over the last few years, you probably know I’m not big on land-based casinos. I prefer the online—and specifically mobile—variety. But next month, I’ll be sure to drop in on at least one of our illustrious Canada casinos. Gambling, however, will not be high on my priority list.

In September, a pair of Canada casinos—one in Alberta, the other in Ontario—will play host to two of my favorite comedians, Lewis Black and Kathleen Madigan. It’s all part of their 49th Parallel Tour, in which the comic duo will make 10 stops across the country from September 6th to 17th.

The tour of Canada has been in the works since March of 2017, when the legendary comedians first announced they’d spend two weeks “seeking asylum” in the Great White North.

“The shows are really secondary to the primary purpose of the trip, which is to try to find a place to hide,” quipped Black in a recent interview.

“We really would like to hide out until this stuff down here blows over,” he laughed, referring to the election of US President Donald Trump. “We’re not looking for citizenship!” he promised.

The two week tour will start in Calgary, Alberta and end in Hamilton, Ontario, visiting two Canada casinos along the way. They include the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, AB on Sept 8th, and the Casino Rama Entertainment Centre in Rama, ON on Sept 15th.

2 Comedians, 1 Bottle of Scotch and 1 Very Tall Ladder

Lewis Black and Kathleen Madigan have been great friends for more years than either would probably like to admit. Madigan told the story of their happenstance meeting that took place long ago at a random bar in Chicago, Illinois.

“There was this giant library ladder and there was a bottle of Scotch at the top of that ladder. I don’t drink Scotch,” she admitted, “and neither of us had any money. The guy’s like, ‘Well, it’s really expensive.‘ And [Black] goes, ‘I don’t care. I want to see you climb the ladder to get the Scotch,’” Madigan recalled. “I’m like, ‘Well, this guy’s fun.‘”

Lewis Black and Kathleen Madigan have come a long way since then. Their careers have skyrocket, taking them from shady bars and small-time club stages to the biggest comedy venues around the world.

Each has starred in their own cable network comedy specials, and can be viewed anytime on various streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Video. Lewis is even part of The Daily Show‘s longest running segment, aptly titled Back In Black.
