MTV Movie Awards
The MTV Movie Awards is an annual award show that is exclusively presented on the MTV channel. This award show celebrates the best movies, actors and actresses of the past year and it was first held in 1992. MTV was at the very peak of its popularity back then, and although it is no longer seen to have such a stranglehold on popular culture, it has expanded and matured to become a respectable player in the entertainment industry, with the MTV Movie Award becoming a much sought-after award.
There are many different awards available at the MTV Movie Awards, including the Movie of the Year, the Best Male Performance and the Best Female Performance. As MTV has always appealed more towards the younger generation, there have also been awards that you would never see in other award shows. These include Most Desirable Male and Most Desirable Female, which ran for four years each and counted William Baldwin, Christian Slater, Sharon Stone and Janet Jackson amongst their winners, and the Best Action Sequence, which most recently went to Seann William Scott for a scene in the cinematic flop American Wedding.
Other such awards have included Sexiest Performance, Best Line from a Movie and, perhaps most bizarrely, Best Sandwich in a Movie. This strange but amusing category saw its only appearance in 1996, when the award for the Best Sandwich went to a ham and cheese sandwich in Smoke, with Goldeneye and Four Rooms receiving nods for their sub sandwich and their turkey club sandwich respectively.
The MTV Movie Awards tends to praise popular genre films, those that might not get any recognition at the Academy Awards. Whilst there has never been an out-and-out comedy or action film to win an Oscar, these type of films regularly win MTV Movie Awards. Some would consider this a big plus, others would consider it too lowbrow and would dismiss the ceremony because of this. We think that this sort of variety is important in any industry and we welcome it in the film industry, which all too often gives praise to drama films that have hard-hitting topics, but not necessarily any interesting subject matter or even a well-written script.
Gambling on the MTV Movie Awards
In its old format, it would have been impossible to bet on the MTV Movie Awards. This is because prior to 2007 the MTV Movie Award ceremony was not shown live. It was taped and then shown a few days later, and this meant that there would have been a large number of people that knew the result of awards that had yet to be officially announced to the public. This would have caused some mayhem on the markets to say the least, but if award-show gambling had been available back then, there is a good chance that this ceremony would have just been overlooked.
Of course, gambling on such events was not available back in 2007, as this is a fairly recent introduction. BetFair, the world’s largest betting community (as they proudly, and rightly, call themselves) were the ones to start offering such markets, but this began just a few years ago. The Academy Awards was the first award show that you could gamble on through BetFair. The Sports Personality award, which is exclusive to British TV, was also available as BetFair is based in the United Kingdom. These proved so popular that many more markets became available, with the MTV Movie Awards becoming one of the most recent.
As it happens, the MTV Movie Awards is no longer taped and shown a few days later. 2007 was the first year that the MTV Movie Awards was shown live, and that has been the case ever since. These days there is an extensive market available on the MTV Movie Awards on BetFair. You will have to go through the betting exchange for this, as opposed to the BetFair sports book, but this is where you will find the best odds and opportunity anyway.
Typically, it is only the main markets that are available. These include the Movie of the Year, the Best Male and the Best Female. However, other markets do make an appearance every now and then and you can also bet on certain speciality awards and markets. These include whether “Actor A” will win an award, whether “Actress B” will shed a tear, and even whether “Director A” will swear. There are many such bets, most of which hail from the markets that have been available on the Academy Awards, and the variety increases year on year. If one actress trips up and falls one year, you can guarantee that there will be a market open on whether she will do the same in the following year.
